Brian's Promise
Brian L. Steger | Scout Executive
Baltimore Area Council, Boy Scouts of America
On my honor I  will join the Lincoln Heritage Council embracing the BSA Mission Statement: The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes, by instilling in them, the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
Furthermore, as your Scout Executive, I promise to:

  • Lead by example, serving as the Lincoln Heritage Council’s top professional Scouter.  Be ethical in my decision making, fair to our staff and demonstrate character and integrity in the community.
  • Deliver a top notch program and make the Lincoln Heritage Council the region’s premier youth leadership development program.
  • Focus on the “Main Thing” of serving more youth through better promotion and increased retention.
  • Be a good steward of the Council’s resources, maintain an operating budget surplus, grow the endowment fund and hold our process accountable.
  • Maintain sound governance by following the Council’s Bylaws, managing outcomes from business practice assessments, administrative and/or audit reviews.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of transparency and a foundation of trust with the Executive Board, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Using the Strategic Plan as a guide, set a clear vision and strive to reach the objectives developed by the Executive Board.
  • Embrace diversity and grow the Councils’ leadership to be a reflection of the communities that we serve.
  • Build on Council successes and show continuous improvement in the four phases of membership, unit service, finance and program.
  • Move the needle on the Journey to Excellence dashboard and strive to be a Gold Level Council, yet do so in a manner that delivers excellent, if not passionate, customer service.
  • Create a positive atmosphere amongst the staff that is a combination of quality, production and fun.  Challenge the staff to be effective, efficient and creative in their efforts to serve their Chartered Partners and volunteers.  Then recognize them for their contributions.  Grow more leaders amongst the staff.
  • Have FUN!
