Brian L. Steger | Scout Executive

Brian was selected as the Scout Executive/CEO of the Baltimore Area Council, headquartered in Baltimore, MD in July 2013.  He is in his 34th year as a professional Scouter, 17 of them as a Scout Executive.

Prior to moving to Baltimore, he served as the Chief Operating Officer/Deputy Scout Executive of the National Capital Area Council, Bethesda, MD (2010-2013); and as the Council Scout Executive/CEO of the Yocona Area Council, headquartered in Tupelo, MS, from 1997 through November 2010.  In that capacity he was elected to serve 3 years as a member of the Chief Scout Executive’s Advisory Committee (representing the Grade 500 Councils in the Southern Region).

Other prior positions include serving as Field Director and Director of Field Services in Knoxville, TN.  Brian began his career in 1983 as a District Executive in the Northeast Georgia Council, later serving as a Senior Exploring Executive in that same Council.

Brian recently served on the 2016 BSA National Top Hands Committee (chairing Conference Electives), is currently a member of the Scout Executive’s Alliance Committee, and he sits on the Digital Experience/Brand Management Committee.  He was recently elected again to serve on the Chief Scout Executive’s Advisory Committee (this time representing the Grade 100, 200 and 300 Councils in the Northeast Region).

He is also one of four Scout Executive’s serving on the Board of Directors for P.R.A.Y. (Programs of Religious Activities for Youth) and chairs their endowment efforts.

Brian directed summer camp, organized and led a successful capital campaign effort to rebuild camp, has served on several Wood Badge and Powder Horn Staffs; has directed National Camp School, been a guest instructor for the National Leadership Institute, is a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow; as well as a James E. West Fellow (in multiple Councils) and 1910 Society Member.
